Packer job description: what you'll do and what to write on your resume

Applying for a packer job at a warehouse, factory or online store? Copy the duties below into your resume, then read what the interview asks.

Duties to write on your resume

Start each line with what you did. Keep the ones you've really done.

No packing experience? Use the same lines for a family business, a school project or a store you helped pack orders for, and say where.

A resume objective you can adapt

Hardworking senior high school graduate looking for a packer job, ready to work shifts, hit daily targets and pack every order carefully and accurately.

Skills employers ask for

What the interview asks

  1. Can you work long shifts, nights or overtime? Answer honestly, because the schedule is planned around it.
  2. Are you able to stand and lift boxes for the whole shift? Say yes if you can, and mention any similar physical work you've done.
  3. What would you do if you found a damaged item in an order? Set it aside, tell your supervisor and don't pack it.
  4. How do you keep from making mistakes when you work fast? Say you check each item against the list before you seal the box.

The questions every interview asks, with sample answers

How to get hired

  1. Most posts ask for at least a high school diploma, and some accept applicants without one.
  2. Prepare a resume, a valid ID and your government numbers like SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and TIN.
  3. Many employers also ask for an NBI clearance and a medical certificate.
  4. Apply in person at the warehouse or factory gate, through a hiring agency or online, then expect a short interview and sometimes a trial shift.

What the work is like

You're on your feet most of the shift, lifting and moving boxes. Shifts can rotate, and the hardest part is staying accurate when orders pile up.

Questions

Do I need experience to work as a packer?

No. Most packer jobs are entry level, and your team shows you how to pack on the job.

Is packer work part-time?

Both. Some employers hire seasonal or part-time packers, and others hire full-time or through an agency.

What should I study to become a packer?

Nothing special. A high school diploma helps, and training in warehouse or production work is a bonus.
