Resume format Philippines: what to put, what to leave off, and a free template.
Pick the sections in this order, leave off what employers don't need, and copy the template or download it as Word, with no sign-up.
What to put on your resume, top to bottom
Use one column, in this order. One page is enough until you've worked about five years, and two is the most.
Name and contact details. Your full name, the job you want, city and country, email, mobile or WhatsApp number, and a LinkedIn or portfolio link. For a remote job, add the days and hours you can work.
Summary or objective. Two or three sentences: what you do, how long you've done it, and one result. New to the work? Write an objective instead, like one of these 40 resume objective examples.
Skills. Four to eight skills from the listing that you've really used.
Tools. The software you use, like Google Workspace, Excel or Canva.
Work experience. Newest job first: job title, company, dates, then two to four lines on what you did, with a number in each.
Education. Degree or strand, school and the year you finished. If you're a fresh graduate, put it above work experience.
Training and certificates. Each course, who ran it and the year, like a TESDA NC II or an online course.
Languages. English and the other languages you speak, and how well.
Work setup. For remote jobs only: your internet speed and backup, your computer, and where you work.
Save it as a PDF with your name in the file name, like Carla-Mendoza-Resume.pdf.
What employers still ask for, and what to leave off
Many Filipino resume samples online still list a 2x2 photo, a birthday, civil status, height and religion. Those belong on a biodata form, which some employers still ask for. A client hires you for your work, so leave these off your resume unless the listing asks.
Photo
Leave it off. If an apply form wants one, it has its own upload box.
Birthday and age
Leave them off. Since 2016, Republic Act 10911 has made it unlawful for employers in the Philippines to require your age or birth date while you apply.
Civil status, religion, height and weight
Leave them off. Your civil status, religion, height and weight don't show a client what you can do.
Full home address
Your city and country are enough.
References
Leave them off, and ask two people now if you can give their names when an employer asks.
SSS, TIN, PhilHealth or IC numbers
Never put government ID numbers on a resume. An employer asks for them when it needs them.
Applying from Malaysia? Use the same format, add Bahasa Malaysia to your languages, and keep your IC number off.
Resume template to copy or download as Word
Replace every line in [brackets]. Delete a section you can't fill.
Use the listing's words for the skills and tools you've really used.
Applying for a remote job? Put your hours in Manila time (GMT+8). Singapore and Kuala Lumpur clients work on the same clock.
Available: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm Manila time (GMT+8) | Full-time

Questions
What is the best resume format in the Philippines?
Newest job first, in one column, one or two pages long, saved as a PDF. That's the format of the template on this page, and it works for office, BPO and remote jobs.
Should I put a photo on my resume?
No, unless the listing asks for one. A photo tells a client nothing about your work. If an apply form wants a photo, it has its own upload box.
Do I need to put my birthday or age?
No. Republic Act 10911, passed in 2016, makes it unlawful for employers in the Philippines to require your age or birth date during the application process, so leave both off.
Is a CV the same as a resume in the Philippines?
For most job applications, yes. Employers use the two words for the same thing. A long academic CV, with your research papers, is only for teaching and research posts.
Is the resume format different in Malaysia?
No, the same format works. List Bahasa Malaysia with your other languages and keep your IC number off. Malaysia's government portal also says to send a PDF and use words from the job description.
Should I send a PDF or a Word file?
PDF, unless the listing asks for Word. A PDF looks the same on every screen. Our apply form takes PDF, DOC or DOCX files up to 10 MB.
