What the interview asks

  1. Why did you choose this specialty or area of practice? Give a real reason, such as a case or rotation that shaped you.
  2. Tell us about a hard case you handled. Walk through what you checked, what you decided and what you learned.
  3. How do you explain a serious diagnosis to a worried patient? Use simple words, stay calm and let them ask questions.
  4. Can you work night shifts, weekends and on-call hours? Answer honestly, because the schedule is built around it.

How to get hired

  1. Most posts ask for a Doctor of Medicine degree and a PRC licence.
  2. To practise, pass the Physicians Licensure Examination, which asks for a Doctor of Medicine degree and a post-graduate internship.
  3. Prepare your resume, a valid ID, NBI clearance, government numbers (SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and TIN) and a medical certificate.
  4. Apply to clinics and hospitals directly, or through their career pages.
  5. Expect an interview, and sometimes a review of your training and past cases.

Do I need experience to work as a doctor?

You need your degree, internship and licence first. Some clinics hire new licensed doctors and train them on the job.

Is doctor work part-time?

Both exist. Clinics often hire part-time or per-shift doctors, while hospitals mostly hire full-time.

What should I study to become a doctor?

Finish a pre-medicine degree, then a Doctor of Medicine degree and internship, then take the licensure exam.
